Happy New Year cookie friends!
2026 marks my 10th year in business and it’s also going to bring about a change here at The Hungry Hippo Bakery. As of today, I will no longer be accepting orders for custom decorated sugar cookies.

This is something I’ve been thinking about for probably close to a year. I decided to pursue decorated cookies because I like the creative outlet it gives me, but more often over the past few years I’ve felt that diminishing when working on custom orders. It wasn’t bringing me joy, and honestly at times I’ve felt like I was kind of “phoning it in”- just getting the order done so I could move on with a project I wanted to work on. I don’t feel I’m serving my customers well when I’m not putting a full effort into an order.

So, I’m going to start focusing on what I DO love. I have a head full of ideas and for the first time in a long time I feel like I have space to explore them. You’ll still be able to find me at markets, and be able to pre-order cookies for holidays, and hopefully I’ll be announcing some other fun things here soon too. (A cookie subscription box, perhaps?!?!🤔)

Each cover is recreated on a cookie the size of a playing card. Picking the covers is so much fun, and I only occasionally regret my choice when a cover turns out to be a little more complicated than I initially thought. Which one is your favourite?
